Marcus Mosiah Garvey, Black Pride Champion
Marcus Mosiah Garvey, national hero of Jamaica, (August 17, 1887– June 10, 1940) was a publisher, journalist, entrepreneur, Black nationalist crusader, and founder of the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League (UNIA-ACL).

Three Winners of The Miss World Competition
The beauty of Jamaica's women is unmatched. Since the beginning of the Miss World Beauty Pageant in 1951, Jamaica has had three winners:

1. Miss World 1963 - Carole Crawford, Jamaica
2. Miss World 1976 - Cindy Breakspeare, Jamaica
3. Miss World 1993 - Lisa Hanna, Jamaica

Dr. Martin Luther King on Jamaica
Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King and his wife visited Jamaica for 10 days in 1965:

Simon Bolivar and the Famous 'Letter From Jamaica'
In 1814, following a defeat in a war with Spain, Simon Bolivar (Venezuelan) fled in exile to Jamaica.  While in Jamaica, Simon Bolivar wrote the now famous "Letter from Jamaica" in which he expressed his ideas for republican government and Latin American unity.  He later went back to Venezuela and defeated Spain.

Jamaica is the only country in the world that owns two genres of music, Reggae and Dancehall, undisputed.

Usain Bolt, The Fastest Man on Earth
Jamaican Usain Bolt is the 100m record holder in the world (100m @ 9.69 seconds), which makes him the fastest man on earth. Jamaican Asafa Powell is the second fastest man on earth (100m @ 9.76 seconds).

Jamaican Jerk Spice
Jerk spice originated in Jamaica. This method of cooking dates back to the Carib-Arawak Indians who inhabited Jamaica.

First Black TV Reporter at the BBC
Eric Anthony Abrahams was the first black TV reporter at BBC.

Second Black College Graduate in the US
In 1826 John Brown Russwurm, abolitionist, became the second African American to graduate from a United States College or University. He later started a newspaper called the Freedom's Journal, which was the only one in circulation run entirely by African Americans. Of all the abolitionist newspapers, Freedom's Journal was named the most successful.

Scripps National Spelling Bee Champion, 1998
In 1998, Jody-Anne Maxwell won the Scripps National Spelling Bee competition at the age of 12. She is from Kingston, Jamaica. She was the first contestant from outside the United States and the first black person to win in the history of the competition.
